Day 2: Lots of Salsa

Hello again!

Today began with a beautiful buffet breakfast at our hotel in Managua. After we finished, we loaded up our bus and headed back to the national training center for a morning practice. We worked on serving and passing and discussed our goals for the trip; to gain experience and improve every time we step on the court. For today's practice, we improved our game AND managed to dodge dead bugs and bird poop that covered various parts of the court.

After practice we changed from our sopping wet practice gear (thanks humidity) into comfortable dry clothes for our two hour road trip to San Juan Del Sur. The drive out was beautiful. Once we got out of the capital city, we were surrounded by the greenery of Nicaragua's land. We succeeded in every aspect of the road trip trifecta: naps, snacks, and sing-a-long songs.
When we finally got to San Juan Del Sur, the sun was beginning to set over the ocean and every jaw on our bus dropped. The town is directly on the beach, so beach restaurants and shops line the ocean while boats rest in the water. We threw our bags down at our hotel, grabbed our swim suits, and immediately headed to the beach. The walk from our hotel was about 2 minutes...perfect.

We dove into the water together and played in waves until it was time to shower and change for dinner.
Dinner was at one of the restaurants directly on the beach which served lots of salsa... and taught salsa dancing. We finished our meals as a live band played local music, and folk dancers performed on the floor in front of us. In between dances, salsa lessons were taught to customers eating at the restaurant. Obviously, LMU Volleyball stole the show with our sweet moves. Although it felt pretty good on stage, I'm pretty sure every one of us was offbeat and awkward. Or maybe that was just me... Either way, the team had a blast and created memories to last a lifetime.

Until tomorrow,

Tess :)
